[David Borgo's Cautiously Optimistic] is a follow-up to Suite Of Uncommon Sorrows. It says "All may not be right with the world, post-pandemic, but things do seem to improve." ... "Roland With The Times" is irrepressible, tipping the hat to Rahsaan Roland Kirk, sounding as if the times are good indeed, with a fine and lively bass solo from Justin Grinnell. Bass solos can be ho-hum at times, but it is not so with Grinnell, and some credit goes to drummer Julien Cantelm and pianist Alan Eicher for their deft comping. ... The music, full of positive vibes, serves as hope for a better world.

RIP Gary Nieves (Feb 2022) - I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to get to know and play with Gary a little. The first gig I played with Gary was back in 2003 but I got to know him better when we had a steady gig together in 2004-2005 playing with the Dave Scott Quintet at Croce's Jazz Bar every Monday night. I'm not exactly sure when, but we also played quite a few times together in Barry Farrar Sr's rehearsal big band. I will always remember Gary as a soft-spoken and sweet guy who was a masterful but self-effacing drummer.
